naturally

B has really, truly embraced the natural, organic menu. It’s not that he was against the idea for the last few years. It’s not that he doesn’t like the menu. It’s just that it’s so much easier to fix the kids a box meal or take them out for fast food when he needed to feed them. But now, he is much more aware. And while he recognizes that organics cost more, He even buys organic butter and organic eggs In his words, “Now that you freakin’ got me reading labels…”

This morning—on B’s official sleep in day—he was up and out of the house at 6 am. He wanted to get a coffee from Wawa. On his way home, he stopped at Burger King to pick up a special junk food breakfast for the kids—he thought they would love it! When the kids ran downstairs for breakfast, I was unpacking the bag filled with hash browns and breakfast burritos. “Hey guys, daddy brought home breakfast!”
Ren looked at the food on the kitchen table and asked, “Is it healthy?”
    I said, “No.”
Ash pumped her fist and said, “Yes!” and then both kids hastily unwrapped the burritos.
After a few bites, Ren said, “I don’t like this.”
Ash said, “Your food is much better, Momma.”

B was standing in the kitchen with a large red apple in his hand. He smiled, winked at me, and began to twist the stem, “A…B…C…D…E…F…G...H…I…J…K,” and with a pop the stem fell off in his hand. “K,” he said coyly, “Brently’s girlfriend’s name begins with a K.”
